Colleen Bicknese, Licensed Real Estate Associate Broker

Pronounce the last name “Big Knees” and you will say it exactly right! In 1977 my Dad bought property in High Falls and generously gifted an acre to me and each of my five sisters. Coming from Long Island, there was something downright magical about the hills and valleys, creeks and brooks. Although I didn’t build until 1986, it felt like home immediately. Sometimes the best of plans work out in unexpected ways... I took over a family construction company on Long Island, manufacturing horse barns, pool cabanas, garages and storage sheds. Although it had not been my original plan, my small business background has served me well. (And I consider myself an expert on out buildings.) For the next 17 years I was the ‘accidental’ weekender, determined to live in the Hudson Valley. In 1998 we adopted then two-year-old twin boys from Romania. Every Friday I packed our van with my boys, everybody’s ‘stuff,’ 3 dogs and sufficient snacks and movies for the 2½ hour drive! When it came time to consider kindergarten, I realized that I wanted to raise my boys right here. They graduated from Rondout Valley HS in 2014. We still have 3 dogs, though they have different names…and 4 cats. My thumbs width oak trees now tower over my house, and have turned my sunny garden into a shade garden…and I still drive around certain that I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I can tell you that I am tenacious, detail oriented and determined. I have been described as a ‘dog with a bone’… (Okay, I know you just checked my profile picture.) No one will work harder to stage and market your home if the right time has come for you to sell. Conversely, I can help you find the right house for your needs, your dogs or your horses’ needs. Once we find that house, I become your resource for every possible local connection you might require. And hopefully, even before that, I become your friend. Welcome to the Hudson Valley.
