Thanksgiving in Ulster County is always a beautiful time of year. The autumn foliage is still bright and colorful; and decorations are put up, giving that warm glowing feel. The community comes together offering celebration and services to everyone. Some travel to be with friends, family and loved ones, while others open their homes to host Thanksgiving Dinner. If you're like many, who scramble with getting everything prepared, here are some good, and odd tips that may help make things a bit easier in preparing for company......

Cleaver Cleaning Tips!

  1. Eliminating Pet Hair - To pick up pet hair, put on a wet rubber dishwashing glove and wipe your hand over surfaces. The hair will stick right to it.
  1. Shaving Cream to clean kitchen/bathroom tiles: Good for removing stains and grime. You don't have to get anything fancy - the cheaper, foam version should do just fine. Spray the foam over the tiles and let soak for a few minutes. Then get either a nail brush or toothbrush and scrub away.
  1. Try and clean your windows not on a sunny day. Working in the sun causes the cleaning solution to dry before you wipe it off, causing those nasty streaks!
  1. Got crayon on your walls, soak a rag with an ammonia and water solution and wipe away!
  1. Have some heel marks, take a pencil eraser and erase them. They should disappear!
  1. If you want a super shiny floor, put a piece of waxed paper under your dust mop. The dirt will stick to the mop, and the wax will give a nice sheen to the floor.
  1. If you have a ring around the collar of your shirt, try putting some shampoo on the ring, is should dissolve the oil.
  1. If you ever get hair spray on a mirror, wipe it off with rubbing alcohol and a rag.
  1. If you get melted candle wax on your furniture never fear! Put a brown paper bag over the wax, and run a hot iron across it. The wax should stick the bag and peel off the furniture.
